The food and Agriculture Organization FAO estimates the harvest of grain including rice during the marketing year 2017/18 a 0.3% lower than in the previous year. The forecast result for cereals excluding rice is to 2.093 million tonnes or estimated 14 million tons below last year's level. World grain consumption will slightly underperform. At the end of the year, the FAO expects a significant reduction of closing stock, estimated at nearly 510 million tonnes . Due to different survey methods are not directly comparable to the absolute results with other forecasting institutes.
