MARS: too low temperatures and too little rainfall damage the yields

MARS: Loss of earnings due to unfavorable weather development The agrarian meteorological institute of the EU Commission (MARS) evaluated the climatic data in the period from 01 April to the end of May 2017 with regard to its impact on the volume of land in the EU and neighboring countries.   In the western regions of Europe , too little rainfall has fallen compared to the long-term average.Spain and Southern Italy have been particularly hard hit by a long-lasting drought. In the MAGREB countries it was unusually hot and dry. It has Algeria   particularly affected. The import trade will be larger. Too low precipitation was also observed in parts of Ukraine and Southern Russia. For Spain and France , the Institute estimates significantly lower yields than the long-term average. While Spain recorded a record in the previous year due to heavy precipitation, the rainfall has reduced crop yields in France by 30% in 2016.France will have to face a low crop for the second time in a row. In the Central and North-Eastern European countries far below average temperatures were determined, which have reached the frost level. It was too cold and dry in the north- east of France and parts of Germany . The damage has occurred, particularly in the case of flowering herds. The vegetation leap due to the mild winter and spring has now been consumed. Only average yields are expected in Germany, Poland , the Scandinavian and Baltic states as well as in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy. On the other hand, the South-East European regions were favored by the climate. MARS expects above-average yields in these cultivation areas. According to MARS , the EU average grain yields should only be 1.5% above the 5-year average.   In the case of wheat it is only + 1% . On the other hand, barley is expected to yield -1.5% lower yields, with the summer barriers falling by -3.8%. Barley we are not only in the EU but also worldwide. For rye, MARS expects a yield drop of -6.3% compared to the 5-year average. In the oilseed sector , the average rapeseed yields are classified as -2.7% lower. On the other hand, an increase of 10% is expected for sunflowers , but after a weak previous year.
