In the post-Christmas phase, the usual weak demand is felt. In Spain the prices have stabilized in the 1st week 2022 at an unchanged level around 1.30 € / kg. Despite the high live supply, sales are satisfactory. In the USA / IOWA , prices rose again to 1.23 € / kg with falling slaughter numbers and below-average cold store stocks.The new front month Febr-22 is already being traded on the Chicago stock exchange at € 1.58 / kg . Prices are expected to continue to rise in the first half of 2022. The background to this is the clearly decimated pig population. Brazil: Producer prices have stabilized on average at € 1.21 / kg with weaker REALs. Exports have slowed recently. There are high expectations for future business with Russia with duty-free import quotas of 100,000 t of pork and 200,000 t of beef in the first half of 2022. Import permit is available. China: The latest prices have fallen to € 3.17 / kg. Preparations for the Chinese New Year, Anf. Feb.-22 are not quite finished yet. After the holidays, the prices usually drop sharply: the forward rates on the Dalian stock exchange to € 2.56 / kg.Conclusion: The post-Christmas phase is usually low in demand.
