The Belgian potato producers made every effort this week to drive the harvest as fast as possible. At the beginning of this week about 10% of the potato stocks were not cleared, the dry days were used to get as many tubers out of the ground. Rain showers are reported for the coming days. The announced rainfall should at least not be as strong. This could slow down the progress of the harvest. Meanwhile, frosts are not reported for the time being. Price was in Belgium this week standstill. The quotations were updated unchanged, although the factories have ordered more raw material again. In the Netherlands , the harvest work was also vigorously promoted. Except for a few sites with heavy soils, the harvest has started. Again, it could be due to the reported rains again to delays. The prices were up 25 cents this week. Exciting, it remains on the English potato market . Here are still over 20 sleep.000 ha of stocks in the soil and the weather outlook are bad. For the coming days, a lot of rain is reported and at night there should be some ground frost. Uncertainty about the progress of harvesting is becoming noticeable on the futures market today. Turnover figures remain weak with up to now 28 traded contracts for the April 20 deadline. Price was the 17 € mark this morning but again touched.
ZMP Live Expert Opinion
Last week, the Association of Potato Producers of North-West Europe (NWPG) released a new crop estimate for consumer potatoes from the main five North-Western European potato countries. If all potatoes are harvested, then (in B, F, NL, GB + D) almost 27 million tons would come together. That would be 10% more than last year and 1.8% more than the 5-year average. At the end of the current marketing season, consumer potatoes could still be scarce. This is ensured by good exports to Eastern Europe and Mediterranean countries.
