Despite the uncertainties and unrest due to the increasing Covid-19 restrictions, the processing factories continue to produce at full capacity, so that the contract quantities can be accepted without delays. There are regional problems with rot in the stored tubers. Overall, however, the free quantities are manageable and can be marketed relatively quickly. Meanwhile, there is talk of brisk trade in France and Belgium. Here the contract potatoes are not always sufficient, so that the demand could register significant impulses. This is also noticeable in the prices and surcharges have repeatedly been enforced. In addition to the increasing processing figures, the markets are currently benefiting in particular from the increasing export business. Africa in particular is currently ordering a large number of tubers and is thus relieving the supply pressure a little. Business on the table potato market continues to be calm. The producer prices remained stable at the previous week's level. In the coming weeks in particular, however, increased demand in the food retail sector is expected.
ZMP Live Expert Opinion
Although the chips factories produce almost everywhere at full capacity, it is currently difficult to enforce surcharges. The focus is on the contract goods and with the background of increasing corona infections there is a certain uncertainty in the markets. Nevertheless, there is much to be said for stabilization at the existing level. It remains to be seen whether the Christmas business can provide significant impetus.
