There is hardly any demand for free quantities on the local market for processing potatoes. The fries producers are still sufficiently busy with contract goods to achieve high production. The prices tend to be lower for very few transactions. Reka is quoting 10 euros/dt for Fontane and 12 euros/dt for Innovator and Agria. However, only lots that are not suitable for storage will be accepted under these conditions. In Belgium too, little has changed in the general market situation. The supply is also increasing here and the varieties of the main harvest are on offer in ever larger quantities. Belgapom is trading unchanged from the previous week. Some relief for the market comes from export demand from Southern Europe, and partly also from Eastern Europe. In most cases, however, the qualities required for export are not sufficiently available. A similar picture emerges in the Netherlands and France. France's factories do not buy free quantities; here, too, they can stock up on contract goods and utilize their production at a high level. Overall, the harvest in France is well advanced. Only in Normandy have recent rain showers interrupted harvesting work.Developments on the food market have continued to stabilize. Reka's quotations remain unchanged this week. In Lower Saxony there were even smaller price reductions. Trading on EEX remains extremely quiet. So far this week, just 9 contracts have been traded in the April 24 date. There is still no interest in the other tradable contracts.
ZMP Live Expert Opinion
Producers of processing potatoes - if they have free goods - have to put in a lot of effort to get rid of them in a timely manner. This is unlikely to change during the harvest work. Although due to the high demand for frozen products, the prospect of better marketing prices remains. The food market is slowly coming into balance and remains high priced.
