The food market goes into the weekend with a few changes. The quotations for almost all varieties have not changed in the federal average. Overall, the sub-market remains balanced. The Christmas business is only slowly becoming noticeable. This is evident in both conventional potatoes and organic potatoes. Business is also running smoothly for organic qualities, and unlike in other years there is currently no sign of an upturn in demand due to the upcoming Christmas trade. Consumers bought around 15 percent fewer organic potatoes in October than in October of the previous year. The supermarket shelves show that conventional potatoes have been able to increase in price more than organic potatoes. There is also hardly any change on the cash market for processing potatoes. The processed goods on the EEX, on the other hand, were able to stabilize slightly in terms of price over the course of the week. In Belgium, as in Germany, the demand for free goods is still rare. Contract goods are almost exclusively ordered from the neighboring country, here and there excess quantities from contract cultivation are also in demand. However, the supply from producers in Belgium is also small, and prices remain at the level recorded so far.In this country, chip manufacturers are definitely looking for free quantities and are also taking up alternative varieties from the French fries sector.
